I was diagnosed with stage V melanoma 5-14-79. My son turned 3 month’s old on the day of my surgery 5-16-79. It was devastating news to be told that they may have to take my leg and my chance of survival wasn’t good. I suggested to my surgeon that he do my surgery immediately, after I pleaded with God to give me the opportunity to raise my son. Four months after my surgery my surgeon had learned of a new breakthrough at Duke Hospital. It was called immunotherapy, that had just came out of the experimental stage. After two attempts to get me into the program, I was accepted. I had 2 years of immunotherapy. I feel like God gave me the right doctors with the right knowledge to be able to write this letter today.
35 years later. I feel so blessed.
